PTSD Treatment with Grant for Veterans

PTSD Treatment with Grant for Veterans

A $12.5 million grant was given to the Tulane University in the sole purpose to create a new Center for Brain Health. The center will specialize on PTSD and brain injuries in military veterans.

Discharged veterans and their family will be able to be diagnosed by the new clinic. The Avalon Fund is responsible for the grant, and works directly with mentally traumatized veterans.

A total of 15,262 veterans have suffered from traumatized brain injuries in the U.S. The Tulane University is no stranger to diagnosing and helping brain injured patients as they have worked directly with the NFL and its retired athletes.

The new center will include an evaluation, outpatient services and follow-up for at least one year after a patient is discharged. Also the center will begin research into other health concerns, such as cardiovascular and psychological conditions. Speech-language pathology, physical therapy, and individual and group veterans’ relations will also be available at the clinic.

The hope is the new Center for Brain Health will be able to treat 400 patients each year. The center has no intention to compete with the VA hospital, but instead wants to partner with them on more difficult cases of TBI and PTSD.

The center will specialize on veterans suffering from PTSD and brain injuries but in some cases treatment will overlap with athletes suffering from TBI. To learn more about this new program check out the university press release.

The Association of the U.S. Army’s book club has released a “Medal of Honor” comic book series. The series follows the stories of Medal of Honor recipients and the amazing true stories of how they received the medal.

The most recent edition of the series was about the African American war hero Sgt. Henry Johnson.

Once-forgotten African American war hero Army Sgt. Henry Johnson is the latest soldier to be featured in a graphic novel series honoring Medal of Honor recipients. Johnson was part of the Harlem Hellfighters, which was an all-Black 369th Infantry Regiment.

Johnson was ambushed by German soldiers on May 14th, 1918. Outnumbered and outgunned Johnson and his fellow brother in arms Pvt. Needham Roberts fought back their attackers forcing them to retreat.

The raiding party retreated as reinforcements drew near but not before sustaining heavy loses. Johnson fought back 10 to 20 german soldiers, killing four and wounding many others.

Sgt. Johnson came away from the battle with many injuries, 21 in total. His health declined after the war and died at the age of 36. Years after his death he recieved a purple heart and then later in 2015 he was awarded the Medal of Honor.

The story was written by Chuck Dixon, who has written for comics in the “Punisher” and “Batman” universe.

Spokane Arena Homeless Shelter

Spokane Arena Homeless Shelter

Spokane Arena has been helping its local citizens during the difficult times of the COVID-19 outbreak. Currently the arena has been holding 100 people a night, which is the maximum number of patrons it can hold. Those that are handicap can stay day and night, while others need to leave after breakfast so the building can be completely cleaned.

The Guardians Foundation has been in charge of this operation and has been said will last through mid August. The arena was chosen not only for its size but because it has bathrooms and running water. Showers and laundry services are also available for its patrons. The service and care that the staff at the Spokane Arena have been giving to those in need has been a blessing. Many homeless have been given shelter here when they were turned away elsewhere.

Before anyone is allowed to go into the building their temperatures are checked. If anyone shows symptoms of the COVID-19 virus they’re immediately placed in an isolation room. From there, staff members will take the person to the fairgrounds for a COVID-19 test.

100 people are currently housed in a 7,500 square foot space. All the beds have someone sleeping on them and are practicing social distancing. Security is also present on the outside and inside of the Spokane Arena which is provided by the Guardians Foundation.

Mike Shaw, the CEO of Guardians wants everyone to feel safe and secure in the building. No violence will be tolerated and no loitering of any kind by neighboring homes will be excepted. Weekly neighborhood meetings are being set up to address any concerns as well.

New "Supply Room" Store Opens

New “Supply Room” Store Opens

The Guardians Foundation has finally finished creating an online store or “supply room” after months of hard work. This supply room provides a platform for companies to showcase their products and services. Like an amazon smile, this supply room takes commission from the companies products. Customers will not be charged extra when purchasing through the Guardians store. In fact, many companies have offered coupons to decrease the price of certain items when shopping through the foundation. The proceeds go directly to the core of the nonprofit organization, which provides the much needed resources for many veterans and homeless in need.

Recently the Supply Room has been given two new companies that are very excited to be part of the Guardians Foundation mission. Kevin Judd, a products representative helped a great deal with coordinating Biosecurity Solutions and Earth Born Global to come together to get their products up on the store.

Earth Born Global is run by a group of individuals passionate about CBD and health & wellness. The company was founded by Heath Bennett and Garrett Wood who are industry professionals and doctor formulated by Dr. Rick Potts. The mission of the company is to provide high quality CBD to everyone, globally, at an affordable price. Earth Born Global products can be reviewed and purchased in the supply room.

Biosecurity Solutions provides top of the line mold and bacteria remover at affordable prices. Using natural ingredients, Redox Pro can safely be used around humans and pets without issue. Their products remove grime, stain, and residue and also leaves the area completely odor free. Sales have also been picking up with the pandemic scare with people wanting to feel safe and free from potential infection. Biosecurity Solution products can also be found on the supply room store.

Feel free to check out the Supply Room and it’s newly available products for sale. Also consider donating today to help a great cause. Furthermore, if you know of any friends or family that need assistance feel free to reach out to us. For more news check out our blog. Thank you.
